Panic Attacks and Panic Disorders

Panic disorder is a form of anxiety where you have constant panic attacks or the persistent notion of fear. A panic attack is an overwhelming sense of danger. Unlike other anxiety symptoms, a panic attack is mostly known for its physical feelings. Shaking, nausea, palpitations, and breathlessness are common features of a severe panic attack. Even though the symptoms reside after a short while, the sensations felt during a panic are very uncomfortable. A panic disorder may occur when someone fears panic attacks being induced. The causes of panic attacks vary from person to person, but they are often connected to danger, phobias, trauma, and stress.

As a result of a panic disorder, a person may become withdrawn and averse to social interactions. The fear of future panic attacks may even cause someone to develop suicidal tendencies if left untreated. The usual remedies proscribed for panic disorder include medicine, therapy, and holistic solutions like a change in lifestyle and diet. The best form of treatment consists of a combination of all three. In the occurrence of a panic attack, breathing techniques and mindfulness are the most appropriate methods to reduce the symptoms.

Panic Attacks and Panic Disorders Treatment, Glasgow

Panic attacks are daunting and can be crippling. It is natural to fear the onset of a panic attack, and it is expected for someone to avoid certain activities or people that bring on panic. Here at Psychology Scotland, we understand how disorientating panic attacks can be, and we want to help to prevent the development of a panic disorder. We have prioritised creating a safe and friendly environment that is accessible to people who may fear the prospect of therapy. Whether you are new to therapeutic interventions or have previous experience with psychological services, we have created an inclusive environment so that you can approach us without any unnecessary stress.

Our professional psychologists offer treatments that are rooted in strong empirical evidence. After an assessment, you will be advised to enrol on a programme that suits your needs. Your interests are also ours, and all the interventions we specialise in have been proven to work over a sustained period. Not only will you change the therapy process, but you will also develop the tools to live a healthier life. Psychology Scotland aims to equip you with an improved state of well-being so that you can continue to build healthier relationships with yourself and your loved ones.

If you do suffer from regular panic attacks or have a disorder that leads to the persistent fear of panic attacks, then it is time to seek out help. Talking therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and Gestalt therapy will help you identify the causes of your fears. We also offer forms of aversion therapy that can help you learn the skills to face any uncomfortable behaviours. Whichever programme is recommended, you will be in the hands of therapists who want to help you overcome your concerns. Taking that first step toward therapy is often the most difficult. At Psychology Scotland, we are ready to help you start your therapeutic journey.
