OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a condition where an induvial is compelled to commit to routines repetitively. These may orientate around food, weight, cleaning, or seeking reassurance in daily tasks. Whichever habit OCD surrounds, the person with the disorder finds it difficult to overlook the task. If someone with OCD is unable to complete a routine, they may feel severe discomfort to the point where they develop harmful symptoms of anxiety.

The cause of OCD is unknown, but there is consensus around a few risk factors. Genetics, trauma, and stress-related events are thought to be possible causes of OCD. As well as anxiety, OCD is often connected to other mental health conditions. For instance, someone who has developed an eating disorder may also show signs of OCD. Treatment plans for OCD vary from intensive medication to procedures like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). However, the most promising form of treatment is therapy. Talking therapies like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and exposure therapy involve teaching a patient the root of the trigger causing an obsessive behaviour. Such therapies help a patient develop tolerance and resilience surrounding points of discomfort.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Counselling in Glasgow

If you struggle to live your life without committing to specific tasks daily, it can be difficult to discuss this with someone. You may feel that they will not listen or not understand how challenging it can be. At Psychology Scotland, we acknowledge how problematic it can be to open up about these habits. We have prioritised creating a hospitable and comfortable environment where everybody is welcomed. No matter how small your condition may seem, you will receive the necessary support from Psychology Scotland. Whether you are new to therapy or have experience with psychological counselling, we can offer you a network of care that has your interests at heart.

Our professional therapists offer treatments that are corroborated by strong empirical evidence. All interventions have been proven to work, and each one is tailored to your needs. After an initial consultation, you will be advised on a therapeutic programme. Once you enrol, you will begin developing the skills to manage your wellbeing. With treatment, you will understand the causes of your condition and the best ways to cope with the challenges ahead. One of our aims at Psychology Scotland is to provide you with the tools to maintain better relationships with yourself and your loved ones long after you have left therapy.

OCD can be difficult to open up about as it can feel like you are the only person in the world who repeats certain behaviours or actions. Talking therapies will help you analyse these behaviours and locate how they can be tolerated. Other solutions like mindfulness and meditation will allow you to observe yourself in a new light. Whichever programme is chosen, you can be assured that you are taking the necessary actions toward self-improvement. Taking that first step is often the most difficult, but we are ready at Psychology Scotland to start your therapeutic Journey. If you want to face your difficulties with care and collaboration, now is the time to begin that process with us.
