Compassion Focused Therapy
Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) is a form of psychotherapy developed by the British psychologist Paul Gilbert. Like other forms of therapy, CFT teaches someone cognition skills that regulate punitive emotions like anger, anxiety, and guilt. CFT is so effective because it integrates the teachings of cognitive behavioural therapy, evolutionary psychology, and other psychological concepts to help people develop compassionate ways of thinking.
The central aim of CFT is to provide people with ways to engage with challenging circumstances that may have impacted confidence. In order to be successful, CFT relies upon a strong developmental relationship between a therapist and a client and an understanding of one’s own emotional state. CFT promotes resilience and openness and has proven to be helpful for treating mood disorders and reducing forms of depression.
Compassion Focused Therapy Glasgow
Although it is difficult to enter therapy, we have created an accessible environment that is both comfortable and friendly. At Psychology Scotland, we have prioritised the safety and needs of our clients. Whether you are new to therapy or a returning patient, we want you to feel like you can approach our counselling services without any unnecessary fears. Taking that first step toward therapy is often the hardest part, and we are here to make it as easy as possible.
Our psychologists and professional therapists offer treatment that is supported by proven empirical evidence. When undertaking therapeutic intervention, you will be advised on the best approach to improve your mental wellbeing. Whether you are advised to take a course of CFT or another form of therapy, you can be assured that is with your interests in mind. Our existing clients can develop the skills they need to build a better under our expert supervision. In addition to this, you will be able to use the skills you learn in therapy long after your time at Psychology Scotland has ended. We aim to give you the tools to manage your life better.
The results of CFT will allow you to have a better outlook and make positive decisions about the future. Though it is one of the more contemporary forms of psychotherapy, it is positively received by clients, especially when combined with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Reducing stress and promoting healthy coping strategies will help you contemplate your feelings without the burden of self-resentment. In addition to this, CFT has been shown to help clients in social situations. If you suffer from self-image issues or any compulsive disorders, then CFT may be the right treatment for you. During your journey with Psychology Scotland, you will get to experience a change in outlook toward life. We want to be there with you every step of the way during your challenges; all that is needed is the first step.
