Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar, also known as manic depression, is a mood disorder that is characterised by severe shifts in an individual mood. In the most severe cases of bipolar, the changes between depression and euphoria can occur every few days. Like psychosis, bipolar can result in delusional behavioural patterns. Other symptoms of bipolar include anxiety, self-harm, and substance use to cope with the effects.
Causes of bipolar range from genetic and environmental factors. The most popular methods of treatment for bipolar include proscribed medication. Mood stabilizers and anticonvulsants are used to maintain a patient’s well-being and reduce the chances of relapse. Psychotherapy has been shown to help the regulation of bipolar. For a patient to have success in treatment, a combination of these two methods is often used.
